In this magical weekend, with just an iron, thread and needle, students will create a sisal straw topper. Students will learn how to create a top hat without the use of hat blocks, a swirled sweatband, and how to trim a hat working with a fabric bias. Students will make one hat with trim. Ancient cultures defined rites with garb and headdress. From a native warrior with eagle feathers to maidens in scattered flowers or the glint of gold. That tradition is still alive so vividly in our modern festivals. From Carnival to Burning Man we adorn ourselves in artisitc headdress that is bold, beautiful & creatively us. In this class, students will work with the most modern of millinery supplies Thermoplastic to mold a fan shape headdress then develop into bold statement piece.
